Schmitz, Peter

Born: 25.01.1917 in Bonn

  • joined Panzerregiment 1 on 01.10.1938,

  • was not part of the regiment during the Polish and Western Campaigns,

  • transferred from Panzerersatzabteilung 1 to the newly formed 2nd Company of Panzerregiment 1 in the summer of 1940,

  • pursued an NCO career and was promoted to Unteroffizier,

  • serving as a gunner (Richtschütze),

  • wounded on 03.09.1941 while serving with the 2nd Company, transferred to hospital,

  • at the end of the war, he served as an Oberfeldwebel in the NCO training courses in Ohrdruf,

  • Peter Schmitz returned to his hometown Bonn after the war and became a police officer.
