  • joined 10. Reiterregiment on 01.04.1933,

  • transferred to Kraftfahrabteilung "Leipzig" (former Nb.4) in 1934 and pursued the career of an Unteroffizier,

  • became a member of the 8th Company of Panzerregiment 1 in October 1935,

  • served during the Polish and French Campaigns as well as the beginning of the Russian Campaign as a Feldwebel with the 8th Company of Panzerregiment 1,

  • transferred to Panzerersatzabteilung 1 after being wounded in September 1941,

  • transferred to schwere Panzerabteilung 502 (Tiger) in December 1942 ,

  • changed into an officer career, promotion to Leutnant on 31.07.1943,

  • transferred in 1945 to the NCO school in Eisenach, serving as instructor,

  • battle group commander at the end of the war in the Harz region,

  • last rank: Hauptmann

Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (16.04.1944) with Oak Leaves (10.09.1944), German Cross in Gold (29.03.1943), EKI (1940), EKII (1939), Golden Wound Badge (1944), Panzer Assault Badge Grade III for 50 Engagements (1944)
