  • joined Panzerregiment 1 in November1938,

  • transferred to the regimental staff,

  • served with the regimental staff until he was wounded in September 1941,

  • returned to Panzerregiment 1 and served with the 6th Company,

  • changed to an officer career,

  • served with Führer-Panzerregiment 1 at the end of WWII, last rank: Oberfähnrich,

  • became a US-POW in May 1945,

  • returned to his hometown and organized (illegal) meetings of former Panzerregiment 1 veterans in Erfurt,

  • after Germany´s reunification, he was very active in the veterans' association and headed the Erfurt group.

EKI (1945), EKII (1941), Black Wound Badge, Panzer Assault Badge Grade II for 25 Engagements
