Born: 18.12.1912 in Bernburg

KIA: 21.12.1943 in the Soviet Union

  • joined the Reichswehr on 01.04.1933,

  • pursued an NCO career and was promoted to Unteroffizier,

  • served as a Feldwebel with the 2nd Company of Panzerregiment 1 from at least 1938,

  • commander of a Panzerkampfwagen III during the first days of the Polish Campaign,

  • was severely wounded on 03.09.1939 at Rozprza (compare pages 275 - 282 in the book),

  • transferred to hospital and after his recovery to Panzerersatzabteilung 1,

  • transferred in August 1940 to the 1st Company of Panzerabteilung A, which became the 1st Company of Panzerregiment 18 shortly thereafter,

  • returned to the 2nd Company of Panzerregiment 1 in December 1940,

  • is listed in the 5th Company of Panzerersatzabteilung 1 in the winter of 1941/42,

  • KIA on 21.12.1943 while serving as a platoon leader in the 4th Company of Panzerregiment 1 (heart shot), last rank: Oberfeldwebel
