Kronfeld, Walter

Born: 27.07.1916 in Wandersleben

Died: 1977

  • joined the 3th Company of Panzerregiment 1 as a conscript in October 1936,

  • transferred along with his company to the newly formed Panzerregiment 11 (1st Company) one year later,

  • left active service as Unteroffizier der Reserve in October 1938,

  • was reactivated in the course of mobilization and participated in the Western Campaign,

  • transferred to the newly formed 6th Company of Panzerregiment 1 in October 1940,

  • served as Unteroffizier and panzer driver with the 6th Company during the first year of the Russian Campaign,

  • transferred in May 1942 to the newly formed Panzerabteilung 116,

  • served with that unit until the end of the war, last rank: Oberfeldwebel and platoon leader,

  • returned to his home in Thuringia (GDR) after the war.
